The Thabo Mbeki Foundation joins the nation in mourning the passing of the theatre giant, activist and Esteemed Member of the Order of IKhamanga, Mr. Winston Ntshona, who passed away on yesterday, 02 August 2018.
As a cultural worker and activist, Winston Ntshona distinguished himself as more than an iconic giant of theatre through his work in, amongst others, the multi-awarding winning plays “Sizwe Banzi is Dead” and “The Island”. He, together with Dr. John Kani and Athol Fugard, succeeded in exposing to the world the inhumanity and moral bankruptcy of the Apartheid regime, thus carrying out what the African-American griot, James Baldwin, aptly called “the moral responsibility of the artist”.
The nation is poorer without him!
On behalf of the Patron of the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, President Thabo Mbeki, its Board, and Staff, we would like to convey our deepest condolences to the Ntshona family, his friends and fellow cultural workers.
May his soul rest in eternal peace!
Issued by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation.
