The TMF & UNISA Welcome Professor Sibusiso Vil-Nkomo as Interim Director of the Thabo Mbeki School of Public & International Affairs.
 
The Thabo Mbeki Foundation (TMF) and the University of South Africa (UNISA) are delighted to welcome Professor Sibusiso Vil Nkomo as the Interim Director of the Thabo Mbeki School of Public and International Affairs. Professor Nkomo assumes the leadership of the Thabo Mbeki School from today, the 4th of May 2020.
 
Prof Nkomo is no stranger to the work of TMF and Unisa as he led the five-year review of the Thabo Mbeki African Leadership Institute (TMALI).
 
As the Interim Director, Prof Nkomo is tasked, amongst other things, with the establishment of the Thabo Mbeki School of Public and International Affairs. The establishment of the Thabo Mbeki School is constituted by the merger of TMALI, the Institute for African Renaissance (IARS) and the Institute for Dispute Resolution in Africa (IDRA).
 
Prof Nkomo is a former Executive Member of the University of Pretoria and Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences. Prof Vil Nkomo contributed significantly to the development of the Enterprises at the University of Pretoria and served on the boards of these entities. He was a Public Service Commissioner under President Nelson Mandela. He is also a member of the Academy of Science in South Africa and the South African Association of Public Management and Administration.
 
His research interests are in urban economics, public sector economics and policy, human capital investment and the political economy of development. His knowledge extends to agriculture and natural resources development. He is also well vested in matters pertaining to corporate governance, he has conducted several in-depth institutional reviews and has served on strategic review panels.
 
In addition to the several national and international accolades Prof Nkomo has received, he also serves on boards of several non-profits and private companies, both locally and internationally.
 
The TMF-UNISA BOARD has expressed great confidence in Prof Nkomo’s capacity to lead this transition and will be relying on his extensive experience as an institution builder and academic to provide the much-needed guidance during this exciting period in the life of the Thabo Mbeki School.
